The return of the Pale Green Fairy

Absinthe is an emeraldgreen liqueur (la fée verte; ‘the green fairy’) that achieved immense popularity at the close of the 19th century, being, as it was, associated with the Bohemian lifestyle of La Belle Epoque. Because of its widespread abuse and worries about the toxicity of one of its constituents, wormwood oil (which contains thujone), absinthe was outlawed in most countries in the early twentieth century.

There was a time when Swan was set to rule the world. This Western Australian icon made inroads into the east of the country and was brewed as far away as Burton on Trent! Today as part of Lion, it is rarely seen outside its home State. Yet it still has a loyal following although fighting a rearguard action against the much advertised XXXX Gold, Tooheys and Hahn brands. But time has run out and the plant will close in March 2013.

“Greetings from Wuhan, where the separator has arrived today. The entire school was very excited about this,” wrote teacher and secretary Wang Feng Song in May 2011. The school is the Brewing Technology Academy of Wuhan. The separator was sent by the GEA Westfalia Separator Group as part of its sponsorship for the testing facility.

Hitting the twenty first century - Holden’s upgrades in the Black Country

The Black Country is a loosely defined area located just to the northwest of Birmingham right in the heart of the UK. Bounded by the towns of Dudley, Walsall and Wolverhampton, it has a famous industrial past associated with coalmining and metal working.
