With more than 15 years of experience in the brewing industry, and the winner of the esteemed Monde Selection Grande Gold (Quality) Award for her brand Castle Milk Stout, Astrid is no stranger to the pursuit of perfection.

Developing her brewing expertise at South African Breweries (SAB) for 12 years, Astrid’s focus lay in brewing production and quality management, in addition to optimisation projects, training, and project management for new brewery installations at SAB.

Since 2017, Astrid has been running her own business called Lizz’s Fizz, brewing fermented beverages such as ginger beer and kombucha in Pretoria, and producing homebrew beer and cider kits.

Astrid holds a Cum Laude Bachelor Degree in Chemistry, a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering Science, and the IBD Diploma in Brewing which she passed in 2007, in her second year working as a brewer.

She is a Master Brewer since 2016. She is also a registered Assessor with FoodBev SETA and has conducted learner assessments for Cellars Qualifications.

Astrid started as a TGL Tutor for the Diploma in Brewing in 2019, and we are hugely excited for her to continue sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with our Diploma in Brewing candidates.

Based in Pretoria, South Africa, Astrid also enjoys environmental conservation, hiking, community projects, travel, and spending time with her three children.
