New craft brewery for Brains

S.A. Brain in Cardiff has recently installed a 15brl plant at its brewery to enable the awardwinning Welsh brewer to produce a range of experimental new brews on a small scale. The main brewery has a brewlength of 150–250brls and therefore the ability to develop new beers at that scale has been limited to one or two seasonal brews per year.

“You’re going to Montana? It’s my favourite US State,” was the observation of a number of folk as I was planning this quick trip while over in the US for the MBAA last year. Even my accountant had spent her last holiday trekking across its fastnesses on a horse. I think the comments referred to the countryside further west in the foothills of the Rockies as waiting outside Great Falls International Airport, the landscape was pretty flat stretching miles and miles towards distant hills – this was of course barley country.

William Chase has a 600- acre farm in rural Herefordshire some seven miles northeast of the eponymous county town. There is a herd of 250 beef cattle, indoors during the winter while sheep, on an extended winter holiday, grazed their pastures. The herd demands wheat and barley for feed while cider apples go to Bulmers and hand picked culinary varieties go to make juice.

Effluent and waste water analysis
