As close to brewery-fresh as possible: A look at the challenges of achieving beer stability
By: Dave Thomas
01/07/2011
A recent Google search of ‘stale beer’ yielded a whopping 17.2 million hits, whilst one for ‘hazy beer’ totaled 10.3 million. ‘Stale beer’ seems to be a catchall term used by misinformed beer drinkers and bloggers with smart phones describing a panoply of faults with the beer in hand, including warm, flat, oxidized and skunky, among others. ‘Hazy beer’ on the internet is found more in the domain of home brewers seeking help with their latest batch, many of whom also appear to be somewhat misinformed.

There were murmurings at the 32nd Congress held in Hamburg about the reputation of the venue for the next one. Built on nineteenth century mercantilism, much like Hamburg, Glasgow was said to be the Empire’s second city with goods coming in and the ships to carry the Empire’s trade being built on its River Clyde. A quarter of the world’s steam railway locomotives were built here. In 1900 only London, Paris and Berlin had more inhabitants. Suffering more that most from the post Great War depression, its reputation for heavy drinking, high unemployment, poor diet, poor health and poor housing grew.

By: Samuel Gathuru

Tusker, the flagship brand of East African Breweries (EABL) has changed its look! Marking perhaps the largest change to the iconic brand since its inception in 1922, the same refreshing malt-based lager now comes in a new look bottle code named ‘Everest’ – an analogy to the size of the brand and of this milestone in its history.
