We are pleased to announce the Class winners of the 2024 IBD British Hop Awards across the six classes of entry. Congratulations to all the winning entries and thank you to everyone for submitting.
The IBD Asia Pacific Section announces changes in its Board with Gary Faulkner as a new Chair and Steph Howard as a new Board member.
The Institute of Brewing & Distilling Asia Pacific (IBD Asia Pacific) at its AGM last month (Thursday 21st October) has welcomed its new Chair, Gary Faulkner, Quality, R&D Director for Lion, and new Board member Steph Howard, National Sales Manager for Cryer Malt.
Gary will take over as Chair of the Board, after serving 2 years in the Deputy Chair role.
Outgoing Chair of the IBD AP Board Tully Hadley said “Gary brings a well-respected background in world class brewing organisations and more than 30 years working in and supporting brewers in the global industry through his work with SABMiller, Tooheys, Boags and the Lion craft brewery network. Gary is well placed to guide IBD Asia Pacific through the evolution of our strategy into the future. With Steph joining the board, her expertise in marketing, communications, sales and events management will enable the section to really connect with our members and grow the vibrancy of this fantastic industry in our region.”
Gary Faulkner
Gary Faulkner started his brewing career in 1990 at SABMiller in South Africa. He held several key positions after completing the SABMiller Technical Management Trainee programme including Brewing Manager at Chamdor Brewery and Brewmaster at Prospecton Brewery. Gary’s passion is in brewing outstanding quality beers but also mentoring and coaching many Brewing trainees along the way. In 2007 Gary moved to Australia with his family working for Lion. In his time Gary has worked at the Tooheys Brewery as Head Brewer, Boags Brewery in Tasmania as Brewery Director and worked in central roles in Sydney as Technical Director, Craft Director and currently as Quality and R&D Director. Gary founded Lions Technical Training programme and is passionate about developing team members. Gary holds a Master Brewer Qualification from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling and is looking forward to supporting the Brewing & Distilling community across the APAC section.
Steph Howard
Steph has over seven years of Sales and Marketing experience in the Brewing and Distilling Industry. Steph is the National Sales Manager at Cryer Malt, which is a division of United Malt. Over her career with Cryer Malt Steph has been responsible for developing and executing Marketing and Sales Strategies. Steph was a Regional Coordinator for the IBD in NZ back in 2017 – 2018 and last year was awarded the Australian Independent Brewers, Young Gun of the Year Award which is awarded to someone who is a high achiever and displays excellence in their field, is a great team member, a strong promoter of indie beer, has collaborative nature, and is community-minded.
Steph joins Tully, Quality Director Lion; David Baxter, Brewery Manager CUB; Gary Faulkner, Quality, R&D and Craft Director Lion; Anne Gigney, Director of The Distillers Institute; Chris Willcock Chief Brewer 4 Pines Brewing Co; and Executive Manager Jeff Potter to oversee the Asia Pacific region.
The IBD heads into 2023 with a new look Board of Management which is focused on connecting its membership across Asia-Pacific and hosting a successful 2023 IBD Convention in Adelaide in March.
