IBD Asia Pacific Announces New Board Chair

The Institute of Brewing and Distilling Asia-Pacific (IBD AP) is pleased to announce changes to the Asia-Pacific Board with the appointment of Dr Garry Menz to its Chair. Dr Menz’s appointment was announced on Tuesday evening 22 October at the IBD AP Board Meeting held at the historic Cascade Brewery in Hobart, along with two new Directors - Lisa Macrae and Tim Symons.

Dr Menz is the Group Head of Liquid Development & Brewing at Asahi Beverages, and brings over 14 years of experience in brewing, innovation, and quality roles, including time with AB InBev, SAB Miller, and CUB. He is an IBD Master Brewer, and holds a PhD in Brewing Science, along with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Food Science & Technology) (Honours), and a Bachelor of Management (Marketing).

Dr Menz has stepped into the role for a two-year term, taking over from Mr Gary Faulkner who has been at the helm since 2022 navigating the challenges of the post COVID world, the successful return of the face-to-face Convention in Adelaide in 2023, and the preparation for the next convention in Hobart in 2025. Gary Faulkner will continue as Immediate Past Chair and Board Director and says that the IBD AP is in good hands with Dr Menz’s appointment.

“Garry brings tremendous experience and a commitment to the industry and its people that will be a great advantage to his role as Chair of the IBD Board. I feel that Garry is an outstanding choice to lead the next stage of development for IBD Asia-Pacific and I congratulate him on his appointment,” Mr Faulkner said.

Dr Menz is supported by seven IBD Board Directors including outgoing Chair Gary Faulkner, Chris Willcock, David Baxter, Steph Howard, Dave Withers, and the recently appointed new directors – Lisa Macrae and Tim Symons.

“As we head into 2025 and toward our Hobart convention next March, it is a pertinent reminder of the importance of connectivity and support for each other in the industry as we move toward the future. I am looking forward to my next two years as Chair of the IBD and continuing our support for brewers, distillers, and their suppliers across the region.”
