A New Era: From the IBD to the CIBD
This year’s Presidential Dinner marked a significant milestone, as we transition to become the Chartered Institute of Brewers and Distillers beginning in January 2025.
The technical knowledge that all our events provide is one of our key objectives and the other is the network and personal connections that these events generate. As in any other industry, people are the vital component of success and the ability to connect them to create and reinforce personal bonds is part of the DNA of our Institute.
In an industry that doesn’t stand still, it is vital for any professional brewer, distiller or those working for an allied industry to keep up to date with respect to product innovation and market trends.
With the learning limitations we have faced in the last couple of years due to Covid restrictions, the IBD has carried on facilitating access to shared experience and learning through our very popular webinars. This has been a major part of our continued commitment to educate professionals from around the world. If anything, the Covid pandemic has accelerated our plans to deploy our online exams and learning material which have been rolled out to almost all our qualifications in the last year.
Throughout the pandemic, we have tried our best to provide a certain level of connectivity with professionals despite the challenges we all have encountered. Nevertheless, it is a real pleasure to witness the return of the face-to-face events that IBD Sections are organising. As always, I’m humbled by the support of volunteers which will shortly see the delivery of a mini-conference on sustainability organised by the Scottish Section with the return of their renowned lifelong learning sessions, a raw material seminar by the Southern Section, hop enlightenment talks by the Midland Section and an exploration of the sensory aspects of brewing by the Great Northern Section.
It is very exciting also to mention that the International Section is in full swing organising another of their highly respected Masterclasses, this time in Scandinavia. More information about this event will follow soon.
