A New Era: From the IBD to the CIBD
This year’s Presidential Dinner marked a significant milestone, as we transition to become the Chartered Institute of Brewers and Distillers beginning in January 2025.
For those who attended the Irish Section dinner this year, and for those interested in knowing how it went, here you have a report from this joyful event, the first dinner organised by the Irish Section since 2019.
On behalf of the committee of the Irish Section of the IBD, we would like to thank everyone who attended this hugely enjoyable evening in Cork on Friday 14th Oct.
The afternoon opened with a mini trade show in the hotel which attracted a lot of attention and provided a great opportunity for people to meet up again after a long absence due to COVID. Indeed, a number of new networking opportunities also came to be.
Before the pre-dinner drinks, the Irish Section AGM was held and was well attended. It was great to have IBD Trustee Sandra Stelma representing the Institute and giving a great overview of where the Institute is now and where it is going into the future. Also, thanks to Rob Davies, the Irish representative on the Incorporated Brewers’ Benevolent Society management committee, who gave an update to the members.
Following the AGM it was time for a bit of socialising before the dinner and awards. A big congratulations to all candidates who successfully passed their exams. As this was the first dinner since 2019, awards were handed out for 2020, 2021 and 2022.
On the night we had a very entertaining guest speaker in Diarmuid O’Drisceoil who gave a light look at brewing and distilling through the ages in Ireland.
You can watch this video of highlights from the dinner.
We would like to thank all our sponsors for the event without whose support the Irish Section would not exist.

We thank all our members who took part in this significant moment for our community by voting. The AGMs was an opportunity for our members to understand the key changes at the IBD as we finalise our transition to the CIBD.
When considering a career in the beverage industry, many of us were enticed in by the waft of sweetness from a freshly made mash, the heady scent of the angels’ share or the feeling of pride at seeing our perfectly dressed bottle on a supermarket fixture.
