Historically our conventions are held every two years. During recent years, the conventions have been held in Wellington in 2018, Sydney in 2016, Ho Ch Minh City in South Vietnam in 2014, Melbourne in 2012 and Gold Coast in 2010.
Due to COVID restrictions our 36th Biennial Convention, originally scheduled for Perth in 2020 was held virtually in 2021. This complete virtual convention saw 380 delegates, 62 Technical Presenters and 125 Exhibitors/Sponsors all contributing to a successful 2 day online event.
At our usual face-to-face conventions, held over 3-5 days, delegates enjoy a comprehensive technical programme of papers and posters; an exhibition of supplier’s services and goods; technical tours and an outstanding social programme. Delegates come from all over the world to attend these Conventions, which provide a great opportunity for brewers, distillers, research institutions and suppliers to network with a wide cross-section of the international community. Conventions are open to members and non-members of the IBD.
Each Australian state has a Regional Co-Ordinator who is responsible for arranging regular meetings for local members and non-members. The regions represented currently are VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, WA, TAS and key cities around New Zealand.
These meetings are designed to enable members and non-members to get together for presentations and demonstrations on technical topics, as well as providing an opportunity to network over a couple of cold beers or fine spirits.
