Walter Heeb - Diploma in Brewing Module 1 & Packaging Module 2 Tutor

With 32 years’ experience working at Coors (Coors Brewing Co., Miller Coors and now Molson Coors) Shenandoah Brewery, Walter brings a level of expertise that all candidates seeking to achieve the Diploma in Brewing and Diploma in Packaging will benefit from immensely.

Walter began his career in 1988 at Coors as a microbiology lab technician, and from there went on to hold 8 different roles across the organisation.

He played a key role as the Shenandoah Brewery operations representative on the 2004 build-out of the brewing, fermenting and ageing expansion at the Shenandoah brewery in  Virginia, USA, the largest brewery construction project in the USA in over 20 years. 

Walter has extensive experience in brewing, packaging equipment operation, planning and scheduling and capacity planning. He was Quality Director at Shenandoah, responsible for the quality of 6 million hectolitres of small pack and 2.7 million hectolitres of large pack volume per annum. Walter led the implementation of world-class manufacturing practices in the brewery and had overall responsibility for the quality management system.

He holds an IBD General Certificate in Brewing, achieved in 1999, and MSc Brewing and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University (2015).

A well-known and respected brewer in Virginia, he has moderated the “Ask the Brewmaster Forum” by Master Brewers of the Americas since inception and has been active in Master Brewers of the Americas since 1989. 

An IBD Member since 1996, alongside 15 years’ experience in delivering internal training using the IBD curriculum, we are delighted to welcome such an accomplished brewer, management professional and teacher as Walter to our team of TGL tutors. 

Based in Staunton, Virginia, USA, Walter can also be found volunteering his time to local non-profit agricultural and conservation organisations with a particular interest in water quality. He resides on a family farm in the Shenandoah Valley where he enjoys many outdoor activities.
