Tim Godfrey - Diploma in Brewing Module 2 Tutor
Tim is a multi-award winning brewer and master of his craft, achieving best brewery and quality awards during his tenure as Brewmaster at SAB’s Newlands brewery in Cape Town, as well as Monde international Grand Gold recognition for Newlands Carling Black Label and Castle Milk Stout brands.
Starting his career in 1986 at SAB Newlands, Tim progressed through a number of production and specialist roles at Newlands and Alrode breweries in South Africa, and served as operational readiness project manager for the SAB Maltings 150 000T Alrode greenfield maltings, completed in 2017.
Subsequently, he managed the Newlands Spring Brewing Co. craft brewery operation in his role as Technical specialist for ABInbev. His passion for quality saw him achieve SAB taster of the year and ABInbev South African taster of the year awards.
With a career spanning more than three decades, Tim is committed to sharing his knowledge and love for brewing with new generations of beer producers, holding a Six Sigma Black Belt certification to support his role as a coach and tutor.
He has content authored for the IBD in Brewing, Packaging and Malting modules, and tutors Diploma Brewing 1 and 2 courses. Tim also holds a BSc Hons from the University of Cape Town, and an MSc in Brewing Science from Birmingham University, and has been an IDB Master Brewer for over 25 years.
A member of the IBD for over 35 years, Tim demonstrates the importance of having a solid foundation of technical and professional knowledge to succeed in the industry, and we are thrilled for Tim to join us as a Diploma in Brewing tutor.
Now retired from ABInbev, Tim is based in Kleinmond outside Cape Town. He and Vivienne enjoy the nature the area offers, and have a passion for travelling and exploring.
