Steve Fielding - Diploma in Brewing Module 1 Tutor

Steve has a distinguished career spanning over four decades across countries, cultures and areas of expertise. Drawn to brewing in his student years, working holiday jobs in breweries, Steve’s main professional focus since then has been as a process engineer and brewer.

Steve started designing and building small breweries in 1984, and from 1991 began working for Lion Breweries in various senior brewing and technical roles. As a Technical Advisor with Lion in Wuxi, China, Steve worked with a large multi-cultural team in making quality and capacity improvements to the brewery and, after his return to New Zealand, managed the building of a brewery on the Wellington waterfront.

Steve has since been a Brewing Consultant for Carlton & United Breweries in Melbourne for a number of years, and is now Assistant Brewer at the Shakespeare Brewpub in New Zealand. 

 Steve holds a Bachelor of Technology Degree in Food Engineering from Massey University (1981) and a Master in Business and Technology from the University of New South Wales in Sydney.  

An IBD member since 1989, Steve is a Master Brewer recognised with the prestigious JS Ford Award in 1989, and we are delighted to have Steve share his many years of experience in small and large breweries as a TGL Tutor. 

Living and working in Auckland, New Zealand, Steve also enjoys exploring the beaches and bush of NZ and discovering new and interesting beers.  His home brewery will be up and running soon.
