Simon Wade - Diploma in Brewing Module 1 Tutor

Simon joined the brewing industry out of university some 40 years ago as a trainee brewer in Johannesburg, South Africa and after many job roles and career moves he became the Global Director of Brewing for the world’s number 2 brewer, SABMiller. Part of his career involved a short step out of brewing to a leadership position in Sydney, Australia for a global yeast business, before re-joining the beer business in London, UK. After leaving SABMiller in 2016, Simon worked for four years as Learning Development Manager for the IBD.

Simon completed an honours degree in Microbiology before doing the IBD Diploma in 1987, further brewing studies at Heriot Watt University (Edinburgh) in the late 90’s and a Master of Industrial Administration (University of Cape Town). Simon is also a Certified Quality Engineer and Certified Quality Manager (American Society for Quality).

A global career has provided Simon a wide perspective of different cultures, brewing practices and the importance of being able to quickly acquire knowledge to help one’s career. As part of his global remit with SABMiller, Simon has spent quite a bit of time in Latin America, the USA, Africa, China and Eastern European countries.

Now recently retired in Hampshire, England Simon is actively engaged with hobbies including Amateur Radio, golf, laser cutting and grandchildren.
